Riot devs gave us some great news in today’s update at the Summer Game Fest, this included full release date and what to expect after launch.
We will start with what everyone has been wanting to know – when will it be launched. Today Riot advised that Valorant will be free to play for everyone on the 2nd of June. So, in two short weeks the game will go from the beta version to full game version which is just incredible. They are expecting nearly 3 million players to log on every day. We also learned, that on release a new map, new mode and a new agent will be added to the game. There has been speculation that the new mode will be a team death match type of mode, but nothing has been confirmed by Riot.
The new map is still a mystery, but it was leaked that it would be called Ascent. This has not been confirmed by Riot. There has also been some speculation about the new agent and its been rumoured that it will be a vampire like character with life steal ability, again Riot is yet to confirm this.
Is Riot disruptive behaviour ready?
Today, Riot spoke about how they have been too slow to deal with players that get reported for poor behaviour. To quote them: ”We’ve been too slow here, but Closed Beta was a wake-up call. We are picking up speed, and will have even more soon.”
So what have they committed to at launch
- Clear community expectations for all VALORANT players
- Improved automation to handle reporting including:
- Automated chat analysis for blatant violations of our community code
- Automated analysis of reports and escalation of common offenders for punishment
- 72 hour team chat restrictions for behaviour violations
- 72 hour team voice restrictions for behaviour violations
So hopefully we will we see a reduction in those pesky annoying players that AFK all the time and a reduction in harassment and misogyny towards female players.
The final question that was raised during today’s Summer Game Fest was “Are our servers ready?”. It is known that there have been server issues lately, mainly with people that live in Germany getting matched up with players from Turkey. Riot advised the following: ”There are things that remain outside of our control, like our ongoing negotiations with ISPs who are routing players to the wrong data centres”. They did, however, confirm good news about new data centres being made available and that they are fixing servers they feel are not up to their standard. Riot said: ”On our current short-term road map is to get new game server deployments in Warsaw, Madrid, London, Atlanta, and Dallas. We’re also not satisfied with latency in Colombia, Argentina, and Eastern Europe—looking at options there”.
